2018 First World War Allies #1 Canada $20 Pure Silver Gold-Plated Coin
Store Category: World Wars. First coin in the new First World War Allies series. Canada began the war as a junior partner to Britain but by wars end was a full-fledged ally with a first-rate fighting force. The first coin in this limited series highlights Canadas role on the Western Front in 1918, when a return to open warfare allowed the courageous Canadian cavalry to play their intended role in an increasingly mechanized conflict. Selective gold plating adds extra shine to the general service shoulder badge worn by Canadas soldiers in the First World Wara war that accelerated the shift from traditional to modern warfare. For centuries before it, and still in 1914, the mounted arm was regarded as an essential component of any fighting force; but trench warfare, and the ensuing stalemate, limited the cavalry to reconnaissance and patrol work. Once the deadlock was broken in 1918, a return to a war of movement finally allowed Canadas cavalry units to play a greater combat role in places such as Moreuil Wood, Amiens, Cambrai and others, where they fought in concert with the tanks and armoured cars that came to define war in the 20th century. A stunning tribute to your military-themed coin display. FIRST IN A NEW, LIMITED SERIES: On the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of 11 November 1918, this four-coin series reflects on the wartime contributions of select Allied forces united in one common cause. FOUR ALLIES, ONE LAST PUSH: Canada leads the charge on your first coin, where the engraved image shines the spotlight on the often-overlooked role of the cavalry in a war that was increasingly defined by technology and modern machinery. THE IMAGE OF COURAGE: Your coin features an outstanding amount of intricately engraved details, such as multiple finishes that add a sense of depth to a poignant design, which speaks of valour as the Canadian cavalry charges towards the enemy. SELECTIVE GOLD PLATING: Like all coins in this limited series, selective gold plating adds a rich golden hue and a hint of national pride to the insignia on the reverse: the general service shoulder badge of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. FOR KING AND COUNTRY: Selective gold plating also highlights the effigy of King George V on the obverse, which largely resembles that of all Canadian coins issued during the First World War. COLLECT ALL 4 COINS FOR THE COMPLETE STORY: Its a touching memorial to all the combatantsone that goes beyond borders to put a face on the Great War. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Most of these are serialized certifications, meaning that each certificate is given a unique number, starting at 1. Your coin has a limited worldwide mintage. Your coin is crafted from one ounce 99.99% of pure silver. Your coin is GST/HST exempt. Designed by Canadian artist Pandora Young, your coin places you at the heart of the action on the Western Front in 1918. Multiple finishes give the engraved design a sense of depth as the Canadian cavalry charges towards enemy positions, swords drawn, with both man and beast exemplifying courage even under threat of enemy fire. The image is paired with the general service badge of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, which is selectively gold-plated to hint at the pride of a young nation for its fighting force throughout the war and during Canadas Hundred Days. The selectively gold-plated obverse features the effigy of King George V by Sir E. Canada contributed an estimated 130,000 horses to the war abroad, including more than 10% of the horses used by the British armies on the Western Front. The Canadian cavalry played an important role during the German spring offensives of 1918in fact, the Battle of Moreuil Wood is often cited as one of the last great cavalry charges. Although heavily outnumbered, the courageous attack by the 3000-strong Canadian Cavalry Brigade helped to stop the German 1918 Spring Offensive. The Canadian Cavalry Brigade (CCB) spent much of the war with the British Cavalry Corps. The CCB was comprised of the Lord Strathconas Horse (Royal Canadians), the Fort Garry Horse, and the Royal Canadian Dragoons. During the Hundred Days Offensive, it took part in the successful offensive at Amiens; in its last action of the war, at the Battle of Cambrai, the brigade captured more than 400 prisoners. Three divisional cavalry squadrons were amalgamated into a regiment known as the Canadian Light Horse (CLH). It patrolled ahead of and helped screen the advance of the Canadian Corps during the Hundred Days Offensive. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box. 99.99% pure silver. (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). Qianlong The Qianlong Emperor (25 September 1711 7 February 1799) was the sixth emperor of the Manchu-led Qing dynasty, and the fourth Qing emperor to rule over China proper. Born Hongli, the fourth son of the Yongzheng Emperor, he reigned officially from 11 October 1735 to 8 February 1796.1 On 8 February, he abdicated in favour of his son, the Jiaqing Emperor a filial act in order not to reign longer than his grandfather, the illustrious Kangxi Emperor. Despite his retirement, however, he retained ultimate power as the Emperor Emeritus (or Retired Emperor) until his death in 1799; he thus was the longest-reigning de facto ruler in the history of China, and dying at the age of 87, the longest-living. As a capable and cultured ruler inheriting a thriving empire, during his long reign the Qing Empire reached its most splendid and prosperous era, boasting a large population and economy. As a military leader, he led military campaigns expanding the dynastic territory to the largest extent by conquering and sometimes destroying Central Asian kingdoms. This turned around in his late years: the Qing empire began to decline with corruption and wastefulness in his court and a stagnating civil society.
