Are familiar to almost everyone. More than 200 squirrel species live all over the world, with the notable exception of Australia. Squirrels are small rodents generally between 10 cm and 20 cm tall, although some species of squirrel like marmots and prairie dogs around the size of a small beaver. Like other rodents, squirrels have four front teeth that never stop growing so they don’t wear down from the constant gnawing. Tree squirrels are the types most commonly recognized, often seen gracefully scampering and leaping from branch to branch. There are around 50 species of flying squirrel found in tree tops worldwide. These flying squirrels cannot fly as such, but more jump and glide to their destination, with the flying squirrel able to use its shorter tail to help it balance. Other species are ground squirrels who live in burrows or tunnel systems, where some hibernate during the winter season. There are about six species of ground squirrel still found mainly in America with the exception of the African ground squirrel which resembles a small meerkat. The Barbary ground squirrel is found on the Barbary Coast of Western Sahara, Morocco and Algeria on the seaward side of the Atlas Mountains and was introduced into the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. This is a colonial animal and lives in family groups in burrows in dry grassland, bushy and rocky areas including disturbed agricultural land, or in dens among rocks. It tends to come out to feed early in the morning and again in the evening, retreating into its burrow during the heat of the day. It feeds on plant material and a major part of its diet is the fruit and seeds of the argan tree. They also catch and eat small animals, such as insects and caterpillars. If the population builds up and food is scarce, the Barbary ground squirrel may migrate. The females give birth to litters of up to four young, twice a year. These small mammals must always be wary of predators because they are tasty morsels with few natural defenses, save flight; and sometimes groups of ground squirrels work together to warn each other of approaching danger with a whistling call. 20.00g (0.80oz). The world famous Trevi-Fountain in baroque style was built in Italys capital city during an almost twenty year construction period. 20 m wide and 26 m high, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome. The aqueduct has been in continuous use since classical antiquity and up until the year 2007 it supplied the Trevi-Fountain with water. In 1732 Nicola Salvi, who was an unknown architect of that time, started with the construction work. Salvi was selected as the winner of an architecture competition by Pope Clement XII. However, the architect died before his masterpiece was completed. One reason was that Nicola Salvi worked extremely accurately and had the detailed sculptures redone again and again until he was totally satisfied. Anyone who visits Rome today is already attracted from afar to the fountain, due to its rushing sound. The magnificent sculptures portray the sea god Neptune who is flanked by proud horses and mythical creatures. With this, Nicola represented the forces of nature which threaten works of mankind. The fountain is framed by a triumphal arch which is structured into the Palazzo Contis facade. Legend says that those who throw a coin into the fountain will visit Rome a second time. If two coins are thrown into the fountain one will fall in love with a Roman and those who even throw a third coin in will even marry this acquaintance. Thus, hundreds of thousands of Euro accumulate annually, which are fished out of the fountain daily and donated to charity. Partly embellished with color. Low mintage – limited to only 2,500 pieces. Comes with capsule and the certificate of authenticity (was released without box). We strive for excellent service. Palau 2009 Antique 7 Wonders of the World Statue of Zeus 25g Silver Proof Coin. 25.00g (0.80oz). The oldest list of the Wonders of the World originated approx. 450 BC by Herodotus. The current commonly used list was compiled by a Greek poet named Antipater from Sidon. The Greek referred to the Wonders of the World as; The seven places to be seen on the inhabited earth. As 7 had a special symbolic meaning in the European Ancient World exactly 7 Wonders of the World were specified. The number 7 was believed to be complete and sacred. Antipaters list includes the following Wonders of the World: Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus, the Temple of Artemis, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Today only the Great Pyramid of Giza is preserved. The other six constructions were either destroyed by earthquakes, fires or vandalism. Unfortunately only a few illustrations exist. Today one does not even know exactly where these Wonders of the World were situated or what they exactly looked like. In this coin set the Wonders of the Ancient World are uniquely shown. Original Antique 7 Wonders release! Partly embellished with color. Low mintage – limited to only 2,500 pieces. Comes with capsule and the certificate of authenticity (was released without box). THELODERMA CORTICALE The Mossy Frog or Tonkin Bug-eyed Frog (Theloderma corticale), is a species of frog in the Rhacophoridae family. It is found in Northern Vietnam and possibly China. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montanes, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marches, and rocky areas. It is a semi-aquatic, semi-arboreal species that is threatened by habitat loss. The common name of the mossy frog arises from the fact that its skin is a mottled green and brown that resembles moss growing on rock, and forms an effective form of camouflage. They have large sticky pads on their toes and a soft underbelly. As with most Tree Frogs, the females will grow larger than the males and can reach sizes of 7-8cm (3 inches). This species will curl into a ball when frightened, and play dead. Mossy frog camouflaged against a mossy background in the New England Aquarium.
