An amazing coin – look at the detail! In August of 1942 the Allies launched “Operation Jubilee” to gain a foothold in Europe. It was the heaviest single day loss for the Canadian’s of the second world war. Of the 4963 Canadians that landed- 3,350 Canadians were killed or taken prisoner. Time for useless history… It was discovered that the Germans were expecting the Canadians that day because of communication was intercepted. What was worse is that the Allies knew that the Germans knew but had to continue with the mission because they were afraid that the Germans would discover that the Allies had broken the’Enigma’ code. (if interested grab Sir William Stephenson’s book-‘A Man Called Intrepid’ – great book). Back to the coin – Only 7500 were minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2017- each one has a SERIALIZED CERTIFICATION. It also includes a effigy of King George VI! 99.99% pure silver. It’s a 38mm diameter and weighs 31.39g. Comes in a lovely case for safe keeping. Don’t let this one sneak away. No longer available from the Royal Canadian Mint.
