2004 Great Rail Journeys Of The World 1oz. 999 Coloured Silver Proof Coin Set. The Perth Mint’s Great Rail Journeys of the World depicts five unforgettable railway experiences in this five coin coloured silver proof set. In railway terms, greatness can pertain to the historical significance of a route – in the 19th and early 20th centuries, pioneering transcontinental railways helped build nations in the Americas and the Antipodes. It can also related to the eminence of a particular locomotive. Engineering innovation has continuously pushed the limits of rail speed, power and efficiency, and locomotives that achieve a quantum jump in performance swiftly pass into the realm of legend. Greatness is also implied by the crossing of remarkable landscape, or the connection of two, or more, historic cities. Each coin is meticulously struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality. The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,500 of the 2004 Great Rail Journeys Of The World 1oz.
