Fine Silver Coin Aircraft of First World War. Sopwith Triplane with Collector Case. Mintage: 7,500 (2016). The Second coin in your Aircraft of First World War Series! A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Planes were still a rare sight in the sky when the world was plunged into war in 1914. The flying machines seemed to have little use, but the ever-evolving tactics of war quickly propelled them from rickety canvas-over-wood reconnaissance planes to full-fledged aerial combat weapons that engaged in spectacular dogfights. This exciting new coin series features three of the most successful Allied fighter planes of the First World War, beginning with the British-built Royal Aircraft Factory S. Introduced in 1917, this biplane was on the front lines of innovation. It could fly up to 222 km/h and remain airborne for more than two hours, two factors that enabled the Allies to regain and maintain air superiority until the wars end in 1918. Although Canada did not have its own air force, thousands of Canadians enlisted as aircrew personnel in the United Kingdoms Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) or the Royal Flying Corps (RFC), with some of them undoubtedly taking to the air in Royal Aircraft Factory S. These beautiful commemorative coins will be the talk of your collection! Three coins in the series. Coin 1: Royal Aircraft Factory S. Coin 2: Sopwith Triplane. Coin 3: Curtiss H-12. Coins are 99.99% pure silver and have each a mintage limited to 7,500 coins. Sure to be treasured by collectors and aviation enthusiasts for its artistic merit and historical theme, this striking coin is also a deeply meaningful gift for those whose loved ones proudly served their country. Your coins are GST/HST exempt! First coin design, the Royal Aircraft Factory S. Designed by Canadian artist David A. Oram, the first coin in your subscription features a richly detailed, engraved depiction of an airfield where a squadron prepares for takeoff. A Crossley Light Tender 20/25 truck is parked behind five Royal Aircraft Factory S. 5a aircraft, which have lined up in front of several Bessonneau hangars; the foremost plane is particularly striking thanks to the use of selective colour, which recreates the biplane fighters dark green colour, as well as the blue, white and red roundel and tail cockade that identified the aircraft of the Royal Flying Corps. Seated in the open cockpit, a Canadian pilot wears the leather flying coat, helmet and goggles that offer him some protection from the wind and cold temperatures at higher altitudes. The reverse boasts an impressive amount of detail in its rendition of the wire-braced box girder, and close examination offers a glimpse of the fuselage-mounted. 303 Vickers gun and the MK-II Lewis machine gun on the upper wing, which helped make this aircraft one of the most successful Allied fighter planes of the First World War. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Collector Case. Order your coin today! Composition 99.99% pure silver. Weight (g) 31.83. Face value 20 dollars. PREMIUM LOTS – WORLD COINS – 1800’s, 1900’s, 2000’s – COPPER, SILVER, COPPER NICKEL, MORE – A GIGANTIC ASSORTMENT OF COLLECTOR COINS. The person who accumulated the coins died approximately six years ago and while living, he travelled extensively and from his travels, he had managed to stash back 1000’s and 1000’s of world coins. Upon returning home, he never sorted them, just stored them in canvas bags and once the bags were full, he took them to one of several banks and placed them in secure bank vault lock boxes. Due to legalities, family squabbles, and a never ending court process, the coins had been the subject of probate for the last several years. Last month the executor accepted our offer. We were certainly excited, but then reality smacked us hard in the face. NOW IT STARTED TO GET A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT. We were initially told that we had six weeks to remove the coins from the banks. The coins were scattered throughout the state of Colorado in approximately thirteen different banks. But then about two weeks ago, we were informed that we had 72 hours to remove all of the coins. As we approached the deadline, we finally located and hired a armored car company to remove the coins and deliver them to us. We had coins all over – in barrels, in large cans, in bags – we even had to resort to piling them on the floor. The dog loved it – as he would paw and dig at the pile – but we didn’t necessarily enjoy his guarding techniques. He just scattered them more. THE FUN PART BEGINS. There were coins from the 1800’s, 1900’s, 2000’s silver coins, copper coins, copper nickel coins – and they were many, many different countries. It ended up being too many coins to list individually, so we decided to sell them in lots. This listing is for a five pound lot of the coins. These are truly premium lots. If the price seems high, remember, you get what you pay for. But do not complain when you are disappointed. REMEMBER, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Again, this lot is for a five pounds of mixed world coins. The coins range from average circulated to AU/BU. The dates, countries, mint marks, and types of coins are our choice. Other than our initial assessment, we have not and will not search through the coins. We will not honor requests for certain dates, certain grades, and/or mint marks.
