The first release in this annual program features loose garnet encased in a transparent locket. Garnets, found in parts of Europe, are classically red and are believed to symbolize passion, fidelity, loyalty, faith, and truth. The Treasures of the World – Europe Locket Coin with Garnet is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality. The coin incorporates a transparent circular locket containing loose red garnets. The Perth Mint will release no more than 7,500 of these Treasures of the World – Europe 2013 1oz Silver Proof Coins containing authentic loose garnet. The locket is surrounded by a reverse design representing a European Alpine landscape, featuring a chalet and Milk Vetch leaves. The reverse also includes The Perth Mint’s’P’ mintmark and the inscriptions TREASURES OF THE WORLD and GARNET. Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date, and the monetary denomination.
