Designed by Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi and sculpted by Royal Canadian Mint engraver Alex Tirabasso, your coin’s reverse is a 3D take on the iconic RCMP Horse and Rider image. Gold platinghighlights such carefully sculpted details as therider’s iconic uniform and the thoroughbred’s musculature as they perform one of the choreographed routines that have made the RCMP Musical Ride world famous. The raised terrain has a sandy texture, complete with scattered hoof prints. The coin’s flat surface serves as the base for this statuette and features the words “CANADA”, “2020”, “100 DOLLARS” and “ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE GENDARMERIE ROYALE DU CANADA” engraved along the outer rim. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty QueenElizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Designing a statuette coin in 3Dis a completely different challenge than creatingpaintings for 2D coins. I have to think about howit looks from every single viewing angle, instead of just the single’snapshot’ that I choose to depict a 2D painting of a 3D subject-there’s no part that is obscured behind other parts. Iemploy a 3D digital sculpting program to extrude the shape roughly at first and then add the fine details-it’s like working with clay, but I’m using an interactive LCD display, a stylus and acomputer instead. The RCMP Musical Ride is a world-famous troop of 32 uniformed riders that perform cavalry drills choreographed tomusic. Its origins can be traced back to the early days of the North West Mounted Police, when members entertained themselves in-between drills by competing and performing feats. Between May and October, the RCMP Musical Ride travels to more than 50 communities across Canada toperform and help raise funds for local charities and organizations. Your coin is encapsulated and housed in a wooden display case with a black beauty box.
