He is acknowledged in the whole world for a realistic form and drawings, and for a great sensitivity to light and color. He lived in 1844 – 1930. He created historical works on heroic episodes of old Russian periods in history, as well as political paintings. He painted also portraits, e. Russian intellectuals and aristocracy, including the Russian emperor Nicholas II of Russia. Repins paintings are characterized by a huge variety of representations and moods. On the left the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus surrounded by inscriptions: I (Republic of Belarus) and: 2009 (year of issue).
