2016 Canada $20 Aircraft Of The First World War Set of 3 pure silver coins
Each coin features a different aircraft from the war, beautifully rendered in coloured planes against and engraved pure silver background. The set includes the Royal Aircraft Factory S. 5a, the Sopwith Triplane, and the Curtiss H-12. The obverse of each coin features the effigy of King George V by Sir E. Royal Aircraft Factory S. Designed by David A. Oram this beautiful coin features selective colour over engraving depicting several Royal Aircraft Factory S. 5a planes lined up in front of Bessonneau hangers in preparation for takeoff, joined by a Crosby Light Tender truck. Canadian artist David Oram created this design depicting two Sopwith Triplanes, one in colour, during the battle of Messines Ridge in June 1917. Also designed by David Oram this coin features colour over the engraved depiction of the Curtiss Model H-12 piloted by flight Sub-Lieutenant (later Air Marshall) Robert Leckie of Toronto. In the background the German Zeppelin L-22 is engraved as it explodes, bursting into flame.
