Fine silver coin features the “Angel of Victory”. Signed in 1918 “on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleven month, ” the Armistice of Compiègne put an end to hostilities during the First World War. Sadly, more than 66,000 men and women from Canada and Newfoundland lost their lives in the war. To honour their memory, this 10 oz. Fine silver coin commemorates the centennial of the Armistice with a powerful reverse that speaks of a nation’s pride. Grief, and reminds us of the cost of this war to end all wars. Mintage of this coin is extremely limited to just 750. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this coin is HST/GST exempt. To mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of Compiègne (November 11, 1918), the reverse image by Pandora Young brings together several design elements that are rooted in history. The design’s focal point is a rarely seen overhead view of the. Statue, one of three identical bronze memorials created by Montreal-based sculptor Coeur de Lion MacCarthy. Here, the statue is a powerful reminder of the human cost of the war, embodied by the fallen Canadian combatant held by an ascending angel, who also holds a laurel wreath in her left hand. The two figures overlap the frame, which was inspired by Canada’s one-cent circulation coin at the time of the First World War (1914 -1918); a wreath of 16 maple leaves represents a contemporary twist on the maple vine design seen on Canadian cent coin issued from 1858 to 1920, while two rings of dots – one with 100 dots, the other with 140 – are kept intact from W. The reverse includes the word “CANADA”, the double commemorative dates “1918 – 2018″ and the face value “100 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of King George V by Sir E. This American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin incorporates a special privy mark on its obverse to symbolize the 75th anniversary of the triumph of World War II – V75. The design outline of the privy mark represents the aerial view shape of the Rainbow Pool located at West Potomac Park in Washington, DC, that is now an integral part of the World War II Memorial, prompting somber reflection, appreciation, reverence, and hope for the thousands who visit each year. We pause to remember and honor those Americans who fought one of the greatest threats our country and world ever faced. Whether here on the home front or on far-away continents and islands, the “greatest generation” rose to the occasion in spectacular and selfless fashion to meet the challenge and preserve our freedoms and way of life. Planes were still a rare sight in the sky when theworld was plunged into war in 1914. The “flying machines” seemed to have little use, but the ever-evolving tactics of war quickly propelled them from rickety canvas-over-wood reconnaissance planes to full-fledged aerial combat weapons that engaged in spectacular dogfights. This exciting new coin series features three of the most successful Allied fighter planes of theFirst World War, beginning with the British-built Royal Aircraft Factory S. Introduced in 1917, this biplane was on the front lines of innovation. It could fly up to 222 km/h and remain airborne formore than two hours, two factors that enabled the Allies to regain and maintain air superiority until the war’s end in 1918. Although Canada did not have its own air force, thousands of Canadians enlisted as aircrew personnel in the United Kingdom’s Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) or the Royal Flying Corps (RFC), with some of them undoubtedly taking to the air in RoyalAircraft Factory S.
