This stunning coin is dedicated to the Pteranodon, a genus of pterosaurs, which were flying reptiles that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 85-75 million years ago. They had long, toothless beaks and crests on their heads, which varied in shape and size depending on the species. At the bottom of the reverse, it is also reported the inscription: “PTERANODON” – the name of the coin. The obverse of the coin depicts the Public Seal of Niue surrounded by the skeleton of the animal.
